Diary of Creating a Website: Prep Work Begins

Latest Diary Entry

In my latest entry to my diary of creating a website, I’ll share with you the prep work that I’ve undertaken to get ready for building my high-traffic website.

I believe that the key to success in any effort is to have good, solid preparation.  Doing so can save you time in the long run and in this case, can go a long way toward making my website an even bigger success.

Traditional Methods Just Don’t Work For Me

As I march toward creating my website that’s geared for success from the get-go, I’ve come to realize there’s more to this than just buying a domain name and putting up some pages of content.  In fact, what I’ve learned is that in many cases, that’s exactly what we do.  It’s what we do, because that’s how we’ve been trained by traditional hosting providers.  But, the result ends up being less than what we’d wanted in terms of a profitable and highly visited website.

These hosting providers have ingrained in our heads a simplified process of do-it-yourself website creation.  But, in doing so, it really seems to set us up for failure in that no one has really shown me HOW to create content that keeps the traffic coming in.  As I’ve been doing my prep work, my eyes have been opened to a whole new way of doing things.

So, why would I take stock in this “new way” of building a website?  Well, because there are so many that have used this same system, and have achieved huge results.  That means that if the system has been developed as a repeatable process, which it has, then if I give myself to it fully, I too can succeed.

I’m Learning New Skills

It’s like learning how to do anything, isn’t it?  Like learning to play guitar, or how to build a cabinet.  Once you’re taught the fundamentals, it takes practice to master.  However, there are some that will take that knowledge and practice and practice and practice and become masters at their chosen craft.  Then there are others that will only put in a minimal effort, and not see the same results as someone who really dedicated a fair amount of time to their success.

In order to truly prepare for success, I decided to do all I could to get as much information ahead of time as I could.  I downloaded an e-book called “Make Your Words Sell!”, by Dr. Ken Evoy.  The same Ken Evoy who is the president of the SiteBuildIt! service.

He wrote the book to help web entreprenuers sharpen their web content writing skills for better results, even if the writer doesn’t consider themselves an actual “writer”.  What I’m finding by reading this book is that there are skills in there being passed on that go beyond just writing for the web.  The book is showing me how to position my content for the best benefit for the reader.

It used to sell for $29.95, but you can pick up a copy for yourself for free. I’m glad I downloaded it as i really feel like I’m getting some juicy inside information on how to create powerful web content that will really help with my soon-to-be high traffic website.

What’s Next?

In my next entry, I’ll have hopefully finished the e-book and will be moving to the next step, which is to take on the SiteBuildIt! Action Guide, and learn step by step how to create a website that will bring in lots and lots of traffic!  You can get a sneak preview of the same Action Guide I’ll be following right here.

This topic is very helpful to me. As you stated….I was just like all the rest….I believed in those hosting sites that told me that I can by a domain, put together a site and “BAM” make money. Well, after 3 years, I’m still putting together that site. I’ve spent more money than i would ever thought of putting into a website. Creating a website is so much more. I’ve learned so much from you Jay that I know with your articles, I will one day have a successful website. Thanks! I will continue to read as you post.

Hey Lawrence, thanks so much for stopping by and for commenting. You are so right, a lot of hosting services and web site software makers will sell you on how easy it is to create a website, but they lack several key ingredients. What they lack specifically: WHAT you should do to set up your website so that it’s juicy to both humans and search engines. HOW you should position your website for maximum value to your readers. WHEN you should monetize, as there is a right time to do that. Do it too soon, you scare away readers. Do it too late, and you’re leaving money on the table.

All in all, I hope to provide value to my readers by showing you all little known secrets on how to not just put up a website, but how how to do it smartly so that it provides maximum value for your readers, and brings you maximum profits by doing so.

Be sure to take advantage of the free downloads I provide in my articles. They are meant to help you. Even if you don’t use the hosting that’s recommended, you can still take advantage of the techniques and information that’s designed to help you maximize your results. Best of luck, I know you will succeed!
